Schiedmayer Hoflieferant

In "Das Harmonium" van 1902 nr. 4 vond ik een advertentie van Schiedmayer Pianofortefabrik waarin een opsomming staat van meerdere titels als Hoflieferant. Ik zag daar ook het Nederlandse Koninklijk Huis tussen staan.

In "Das Harmonium" of 1902 nr. 4 I found an advertizing of Schiedmayer Pianofortefabrik where a list of titles as "Hoflieferant" is mentioned. There was also an entry for the Royal Dutch Family.

De lijst van toegekende titels als hofleverancier is uitgebreid. En dat bracht mij op het idee om dan meteen maar alle ordetekenen van de titels te verzamelen voor deze pagina. Een klus die me heel veel energie gekost heeft.

The list of granted titles as 'Hoflieferant' is quite a list. This made me think to start collecting the signs of these attributions. A job that has taken me a lot of time.

Er is dan maar één reactie mogelijk: Een brief schrijven met het verzoek of het mogelijk is om van deze titel de onderliggende documentatie te krijgen. Met het nadrukkelijk melden dat in de Tweede Wereldoorlog het totale archief van de firma verloren is gegaan. En met de stille hoop dat in het Koninklijk Huisarchief misschien zelfs een kopie van het officiële certificaat aanwezig is.

Only one possible action: To write a letter to the Royal Archives requesting - when possible - to obtain copies of the files regarding this title. And to mention with some emphasis that during World War II the archives of the company were destroyed. And with hope that the Royal Archives have a copy of the official certificate showing being a Hoflieferant.

Ik verzond de brief met de gedachte dat het wel eens máánden zou kunnen duren om een antwoord te krijgen. De brief ging op vrijdag op de post. Wie schetst mijn verbazing toen ik de volgende woensdag al een compleet dossier in de brievenbus aantrof.

I posted a letter to the Royal Archives, expecting that a reply would take ages. The envelope was dropped at the letterbox on friday. And I was very surprised to find the reply the next wednesday in my letterbox.

In de enveloppe twéé dossiers. Een aanvraag in 1891/1892 die afgewezen werd. Schiedmayer Pianofortefabrik maakte dankbaar gebruik van het feit dat ze een Schiedmayer harmonium hadden kunnen leveren aan Paleis Het Loo, dus in 1898 probeerde de firma het nog maar een keer. In the envelope there were two files. A request in 1891/1892 which was denied. Schiedmayer Pianofortefabrik used the delivery of a harmonium to the Royal Palace Het Loo at Apeldoorn (the summer residence). Hence the Schiedmayer Pianofortefabrik supplied a second request to be honored as a Hoflieferant. This time succesful. [detailed information on the harmonium at the bottom of this page ]

De officiële kopiën van de dossiers vallen onder het copyright van het Koninklijk Huisarchief. De dossiers zijn vanzelfsprekend handgeschreven documenten in zowel het Nederlands als het Duits. En lang niet alles is goed leesbaar. Vandaar dat hieronder de dossiers niet als afbeeldingen te zien zijn, maar in de vorm van een transcriptie van de teksten.

The official copies of the files are under copyright of the Royal Archives. The files contain ( of course) only handwritten documents in both Dutch and German. And not all documents are easy to read.

That is why you will not see the files as pictures, but as a transcription of the texts.

Hochdurchlauchtigste, Allergnädigste Königin!

Die gehorsamst Unterzeichneten hatten vor einigen Jahren die hohe Ehre, für die Kapelle des Königlichen Schlosses in Loo durch Vermittlung des Hofpianisten Herrn J. Stortenbeker ein grosses Harmonium lieferen zu dürfen. Wie wir damals zu unseren grossen Freude erfahren durften, hat das in unserer Fabrik mit besonderer Sorgfalt gebaute Instrument den Alleerhöchsten Beifall gefunden und leistet seitdem gute Dienste.

Gestützt auf diese Tatsache wagen wir es, Eurer Königlichen Majestät allerunterthänigst die Bitte vorzulegen uns den Titel Eurer Majestät Königlicher Hoflieferanten verleihen zu wollen.

Zum Beweis, das Eure Majestät diese hohe Auszeichnung keinen Unwürdigen verleihen würden, erlauben wir uns anzuführen dass uns derselbe Titel von den Höfen von Berlin, Stuttgart, London, Rom, Buccarest, Coburg und Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen bereits zu Teil wurde.

Unser in Ehrfurcht geliebter König, der hohe Verwandte des Königlichen Hauses von Holland, hat uns ausserdem erst vor Kurzen gelegentlich einer persönlichen Besichtigung unser Fabrikanlagen die "Grosse goldene Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft" zu verleihen geruht. Auf der Internationalen Ausstellung in Amsterdam 1883 hat unsere Firma, die seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 1853 auf allen bedeutenden Ausstellungen Preise errang, als höchste Äusserung deas Ehrendiplom erhalten.

Stortenbeker, een groot harmonium te mogen leveren. Zoals wij destijds tot onze grote vreugde mochten ervaren dat het instrument, dat in onze fabriek met bijzondere zorg is gebouwd, de Allerhoogste goedkeuring heeft verkregen en sindsdien goede diensten bewijst.

Op grond van dit feit wagen wij het aan Uwe Koninklijke Hoogheid alleronderdanigst voor te leggen ons verzoek aan Uwe Majesteit, ons de titel Koninklijke Hofleverancier te willen verlenen.

The undersigned, a few years ago had the high honor to deliver through the mediation of Court pianist mr. J. Stortenbeker a large harmonium, as we were allowed to learn to your great joy and satisfaction, which was built in our factory with special care and was given the highest acclaim and since then providing good service.

Based on this fact we dare to present most humbly a petition to Your Majesty to grant us the title of Royal purveyor to the Court.

Allow us to proof to Your Majesty that granting this high distinction is not to an unworthy, as we mention that the same distinction has already been granted by the Courts of Berlin, Stuttgart, London, Rome, Buccarest, Coburg and Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.

Our respectfully beloved King, the High Relative of the Royal House of Holland, has also recentley deigned to give us the honor of an occasional personal visit to our factories to present to us the 'Great Gold Medal for Art and Science'. At the International Exhibition in Amsterdam 1883, our company received prices at all major exhibitions since the creation of our firm, we received als the highest expression a honorary diploma.

De hierboven geciteerde brief in het Duits is ter hand gesteld aan Koningin-Regentes Emma, getuige de woorden: "Aan Um de Konging-Regentes" (Aan Uwe Majesteit Koningin-Regentes).
Dan volgt een document waarin het advies van de Hof-Commissie. De tekst luidt:

De afwijzing lijkt - gezien de inhoud van het dossier - voornamelijk te steunen op het feit dat een brief met het verzoek te laat binnengekomen is in het jaarlijkse proces van toekenning van hofleverancierschap.

The denial seems - according to the available file - to be due to the fact that the request came in too late to be inserted in that years proces.

Het dossier 1898 begint met een schoonheidsfoutje. De firma Schiedamyer schrijft een concept gedateerd op 14 mei 1898, het document is zichtbaar geschreven door een klerk met ervaring in schoonschrift.

De gecalligrafeerde vertaling van de brief is echter gedateerd op 15 mei 1897

De Duitstalige editie is vrijwel onleesbaar, maar deze zal door de firma Schiedmayer ontcijferd worden.

The 1898 file starts with a minor flaw. The Schiedmayer company writes a concept dated 14th of May 1898. This concept is clearly written by someone sklilled in calligraphic writing.

The translated callipgraphy however, is dated 15 of May 1897.

The German concepts is hard to read, the Schiedmayer company will take care of the transcription.

dat het Uw Majesteit heeft behaagd door bemiddeling van den Hofpianist den heer J. Stortenbeker een harmonium uit hunne fabriek te betrekken voor de Kapel van het Koninklijk slot 'Het Loo'.

In de veronderstelling dat genoemd instrument de hooge goedkeuring van Uwe Majesteit blijft wegdragen, wagen zij het tot Uwe Majesteit het eerbiedig verzoek te richten om hen de titel van Uwer Majesteits Hofleverancier te willen verleenen.

In support of their respectful request respectfully they afford to mention that a similar high honor also fell from H.H.H.H. the Emperor of Germany, the King of Württemberg, the Queen of England, the King and Queen of Italy.

It is sure now. This is a Schiedmayer Dominator Rossini. Eight and a half stops, 10.5 ranks of reeds.

Het heeft enige tijd geduurd, maar nu is ons bevestigd dat het instrument er nog altijd staat. Binnen afzienbare tijd gaan we het instrument bekijken, fotograferen en controleren in welke staat het verkeert.

It took quite some time, but now it is confirmed the instrument is still there. In due time we are going to have a look, make pictures, and check the playability.
